As your choice optometrist, we want to make sure that each of our patients has access to the most advanced vision technology available. By utilizing the state-of-the-art Optos Imaging system, we can provide patients with a more clear view of their eye health with a single image.
The Optomap technology helps to provide a clear view of the retina, making it easier to catch common eye disease symptoms early on and helping our eye doctor to create a treatment plan that works well to meet your specific lifestyle needs. Proper scanning of the retina is necessary to verify that your eye is healthy and a vital part of our preventative care plan. Some of the common health conditions that can be recognized with the Optomap system include:
- Macular Degeneration
- Heart Disease
- and More
What is an OptoMap Image?
The modern Optomap image is fast, painless and safe enough to be used on patients of all ages. During your comprehensive eye exam, our optometrist will ask that you look into the Optos device, one eye at a time to take a clear picture of your retina. When looking into the keyhole you will see a quick flash of light as the machine processes the image. Dilation drops may or may not be used, depending on your conditions. In total, the image capture takes less than 1 second and are available immediately for review. This technology also allows you to see your retina as an image, just like our eye doctors do when making a diagnosis.
Additional Benefits of Optos Imaging
The Optomap provides our team with an ultra-widefield retinal image that captures more than 80 percent of the retina with one panoramic image. When compared to other imaging systems that only show 15 percent of the retina in a single image, the benefits can be life-changing.
Some of the additional benefits of Optos Imaging include:
- Early detection of common health issues like cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke
- Better protection against vision impairment and blindness
